Thanksgiving and a special THANKS to our Emergency Services!

Thanksgiving Eve marks a very special time here in Media, PA and I want to thank each and every one of you that make it such.  Whether you live, work or just plan on spending some time in town this weekend, have a great time and holiday.

I'd also like to recognize and thank our Media Police Department, Media Fire Department, the EMS and all who support these efforts.   Our holidays are always that much more enjoyable knowing we have some of the best services around looking out for us.

Today's Thanksgiving Dinner for Our Veterans, Families and Friends - Media VFW 3pm

Gravy's on!
Today at 3pm the Media VFW will hold its Veteran's Thanksgiving Dinner.  I was down there this morning checking it out and I can say they are ready to go having started at 5:30am this morning.  The turkey is done, stuffing is on and the biggest pots of gravy I've ever seen are simmering.

This is a free meal for the veterans, but families and friends are invited too (Adults $7, Kids $3)  Stop on by, it should be a really nice afternoon for everyone.  A special thanks for the generous contributions made by local businesses, especially the restaurants in Media.

Media in Two Minutes

MEDIA IN TWO MINUTES

****ATM SPOTLIGHT THIS WEEK!****
A special thanks to everyone who helped out with this year's turkey drive for the Media food bank. Through your generous donations we were able to deliver 37 turkeys yesterday, among the cheers from those waiting in line to get into the food bank.  With 57 delivered by the Nativity Youth Group and those who were dropping off turkeys individually, I think we may have collectively reached 100 turkeys.  That's just awesome, everyone!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Christmas Decorations
Great to see Media putting up Christmas decorations throughout the town.  Yesterday they were hard at working getting the lights ready on Veteran's Square.  This will be the venue for Santa's Arrival and Festival of Lights at the courthouse scheduled for Friday 11/29 at 5pm.  Unlike last year, when the lights are turned on Friday, people will actually see something happen.

There was a group interested in contributing $5,000 to make this year's Arrival of Santa in Media a BIG festival.  These folks market some pretty big events and specialize in travel and tourism. Unfortunately, other than Councilwoman, Monika Rehoric they aren't too interested in dealing with Media Borough Council.  Who is these days?  Oh, well!

Media CASA
You most likely don't know what CASA is or what they do.  For many years I didn't either until I was invited to their annual gala and found that they are not only located in Media, but are doing some of the most important work for our communities.  CASA is the Court Appointed Special Advocates who look out for the best interests of abused and neglected children who are involved in the family courts.  It's serious stuff, and this group deserves all the credit in the world.  If you have time, think about becoming a volunteer for this AMAZING effort.

Thanks for the invite last night! It's one of my favorite events.

Sun Center Studio May Be A Bigger Deal Than You Think!
On Wednesday I was at an event in Philadelphia that drew a lot of industry leaders from the entertainment and broadcast industries.  It wasn't so much what the event was about, but what was said afterwards that really piqued my interest.  Upon closing remarks, the chairman of the company hosting the event wanted the guests to know that there was some exciting news to be released shortly on a very big project that included a studio and entertainment facility.
This is about to get BIG!

I'm not going to go into further details, nor will I say Delaware County will erect a sign on I-95 to the effect of HOLLYWOOD 2, but this could get real interesting.  Fear not,  I've made sure that the folks I was among clearly understood that Media PA makes for a great filming back drop and that it be considered for any such role.  How's this sound? Media makes the Media?

That Smell?
Not sure if there was a problem with the sewage treament plant on Ridley Creek Road this week, or what; but it sure didn't smell too good Tuesday and Wednesday down of the SW side of town. Especially by W. Franklin Street and down by the Media train station.

Tom Killion Delivers on The PA Transportation Bill
We've been talking about this for weeks, but last Thursday a breakthrough was made on the SEPTA funding that was included in the PA Transportation Bill that will be signed by Governor Tom Corbett on Monday.  I spoke to Tom Killion on Saturday who told me there were quite a few terse discussion leading up to the passage, but it eventually got done.  I'd like to thank Tom for all that he did for his district, including Media; that allowed for public transportation to keep moving.  As illustrated by his comments on the house floor, it would have been a disaster to have had potentially thousands of more cars on the roads due to the threatened closure of the Media/Elwyn Line.

THE BIGGEST NIGHT IN MEDIA - WEDNESDAY 11/27
BIG Night in Media, PA
You won't find it on any event calendar, nor does it have an official name, but Wednesday marks the biggest night in Media with the arrival of friends, family and college students home for Thanksgiving.  I think it's still Media's best night for the bars and restaurants and for different reasons, the Media Police too.   Let me know how it goes. And make sure to tip your waitresses and bartenders.

STAG BAR
If you don't know where Media's Stag Bar is, you should. Truthfully, you may have been there only to know it by the "bar" in D'Ignazio's Towne House.  If you want to kick-off the Holidays in true fashion, but want to get away from the crowds and rowdiness, this is a cozy place to go.

WAWA
Despite what was done at Thursday's borough council meetings, there's no news here.  In fact, it's playing out as I've been telling people it would.  Last week there was a unamimous vote 7-0 supporing Wawa's preliminary plan, but that really means nothing until the details are worked out over the traffic situation.  Those details may just be the deal breaker for Wawa, even though those issues will have to be dealt with by Media sooner or later.

In my opinion, everyone at this point is fed up and will probably leave.  Media borough council will deflect all responsibility by saying they fully supported the preliminary plan, but it's Wawa's fault because they didn't see it through.  See how this works?

As mentioned earlier, who in their right mind would want to have to deal with Media's anti-business shenanigans perpetuated my Media Borough Council? I'm looking at you Hampton Inn, but they already knew this.

A Bunch of Turkeys Never Sounded So Good!

Media Food Bank Turkey Collection
Collectively it's looking like the Media Food Bank will receive 100 turkeys for families in need this Thanksgiving season.  The Nativity Youth Group really stepped up with 57 turkeys that were distributed last night and are now all gone.  On behalf of the community we'll be delivering what I hope will be enough to get this total over 100.  We've received a lot of generous donations so we should be close.

For those who have asked about dropping off individual turkeys at the Media Food Bank, you can tomorrow starting at 9:30am.  Ask for Paul Mickle who is organizing the affair and will be available with his team to take donations.

Media Wine Professional, Tom Deschere Gives GREAT Suggestions for Thanksgiving

Much like having a good tailor and mechanic, it's also good to have a go-to person when it comes to wine, especially during the holiday seasons.  Now, you can search the internet and find countless recommendations, but much like my doctor, I like to know who I'm dealing with. Perhaps you do too, so I reached out to the best Media wine guy I know, Tom Deschere.

Tom worked at La Belle Epoque before going on to be a well known wine buyer in the region. He may not be an officially certified sommelier....yet, but he hasn't steered me wrong on the many recommendations he's provided over the years. Check out his FB page.

Check out his great run-down of wine suggestions for Thanksgiving.  Thanks, Tom!

Media in Two Minutes - Dedicated to Bruce Squire

MEDIA IN TWO MINUTES

I have to make today's segment a bit on the short side, but that doesn't mean there isn't a lot going on.  One category I've been working on is the ATM Spotlight which will feature someone or something each weekend and a story behind why it's special.  A good deed, great event, new store - It could be anything

ATM SPOTLIGHT!
RIP Bruce Squire
On a somber note, I want to recognize the passing of long time local and all around GREAT guy Bruce Squire.  Bruce was not only the former manager of the world famous Packey's Pub (now Sligos), but was a gentle soul that always enjoyed "Everybody's Hometown."  I wouldn't see Bruce that often after Packy's closed, but he always told me how much he enjoyed this blog.  Bruce, you get the spotlight of the week.  I'll miss your humor, perspective and passion for the the Philadelphia Phillies!

Lights! Action, Camera! in Chester
This story is a bit outside of the Media proper area, but a great example of the economic investment that was recently announced on the entertainment complex being brought to Chester.  One person instrumental in that vision was a local guy and Penncrest Alumni, David Raynor who was the chairman of the committee.   A special thanks to Senator Pileggi and the many others who continue to make this happen.

Unlike Media Borough Council and Mayor Bob "No Plan" McMahon, this illustrates the pro activeness and commitment needed to make an area great.  The difference here is people proactively striving to make the best of and opportunity, not sitting around on their hands.

ATM Wishes Alec Mendez a Speedy Recovery!
I want to personally wish Alec a speedy recovery from a recent surgery he had this week.  I don't know everyone that reads this blog, but for the ones that do,  I want them to know that it's not only me that wishes them well,  but those in the community too.  Get well, Alec!

Edgmont and Jefferson - Big Things Happening!
If you're wondering what's going on with the vacant lot at Edgmont and Jefferson Streets, the mystery may be soon over.  I saw some sketches for what's being described as vertical town homes and I can say it's a interesting concept.....one of which I'm not so sure about.   The proposed plans will be three to four stories tall and look like tradition town homes, however it's sort of like a condominium setup where there will be units on top of one another.  Imagine a town home where there is a unit on the lower lever and top level.  They won't be cheap either.

ALL THAT JAZZ!
Last night was Media's Jazz Festival held on State Street.  This is mostly an out-of-towner's event as most locals seem to avoid it, which you can include me in that group.  It's not because it's a bad event, I just don't think people are into this scene that much.  Don't get me wrong, I've been to jazz events in the South of France that are great, but it lacks a bit here in Media.  Some venues complain that participants who come to watch the music only order water which doesn't bode well for them.

Now, I'm not saying we'll get Lil' Wayne down here to change it up, but I think this event should be modified a bit.

Let's Talk Turkey- Media Food Bank Turkey Drive
If I do but one thing in 2013, it'll be bringing awareness to Media's Food Bank.  Last week I mentioned I wanted to get 100 frozen turkeys for the families that rely on this community service.  I've even asked for support from readers.  I'm happy to say the money is coming in to make that a reality.  I could announce the people who have sent in checks, and I will if they want me to; but I believe charity should be anonymous.

Thank you for those who have committed to help.  I think this could be a great annual event.

Media Upper Providence Library
There are new architectural plans that I saw recently for the rebuilding of the Media/UP Library.  They look fantastic and the people who are working on this are thrilled with how well they turned out.  They'll be releasing them soon.

Try Walking A Mile in Media's Shoes - Many Are Delighted To

I have no problem with the fact that West Goshen Township was ranked 10th on Money Magazine's 2013 list of "America's Best Small Towns." I do, however take issue that Media, PA wasn't even listed, let alone mentioned.  To support this complaint is yet another reason why it should have been: Media's ranked very high, being one of the most walkable communities around as found on walkscore.com (Yes, there's such a website).

Not only did Media score a 74 (Quite Good), I had trouble finding another, similar town that even came close.  Throw in the fact that public transportation is accessible too, and you have even a stronger case.

Projected range of how far the average person can walk in 20 minutes.

First Snow of The Year in Media, PA 2013

I always found the first snowfall of the year to be special, especially here in Media, PA.  Though it won't be significant, or last very long; a very light and wet snow if falling across the borough this morning.

May be a good time to think about a snow shovel, snow blower or tickets to the Balearic Islands.

Media in Two Minutes - Let's Talk Turkey!

Dear Reader,

Before we get into Media in Two Minutes, and there seems to be a lot going on this week; I wanted to take some time to talk about an effort I'm currently working on with the Media Food Bank.  Two weeks ago I was at an event where I was told that the people who rely on the food bank had asked if there was anyway they could receive turkey's this year for Thanksgiving.  The food bank has not been able to provide them in years.

I spoke to Paul at the food bank yesterday and we are trying to buy 100 frozen turkey's for these families.  If anyone would like to contribute time, commercial freezer space or a donation; please let me know.  I'll be talking to a lot of people and businesses over the week.  I'll provide a specific post about this later today, but please consider helping out.  Even a $5 check helps!

Checks payable to:
First United Methodist Churchmemo - Media Food Bank
mailed to 128 E Sixth St. Media, PA 19063

Thanks

Sligo Has A New Menu
With a new chef comes a new menu and Sligo now has both.  How good could an award winning chef be?  Check it out yourselves, you wont' be disappointed.  With the social season coming up, Sligo's has a GREAT room upstairs that caters to all kinds of events.

This place is an area favorite for Guinness and oysters.

Say it Ain't So D'Ignazio's Towne House
There are very few things you can rely on in this world and that list unfortunately continues to dwindle.  As long as I can remember the Stag Room at the Towne House ALWAYS had complimentary cheese and crackers at the bar.  I didn't always eat them, but did find it to be a nice touch among the many this iconic restaurant has.  However, this week I learned that there are no more trays of cheese and crackers and haven't been for some time.   Rest assured you can still have peanuts (shells on floor) and popcorn.

No one's slinging Pol Roger jeroboams around here, but if you do like French sparkling wine (not from the Champagne region) the Towne House has a very good one by the glass.  It's cheaper than their house wines, but very good.

The Best Deal in Town for Breakfast - Fast and Fancy
If anyone in Media can beat the weekly breakfast specials that Fast and Fancy has, the floor is yours!  With a daily $3.95 and $4.95 breakfast menu, you can't go wrong.  I'm talking omelets and pancakes/french toast........the works.  They have good deals on the weekends too.  Make sure you save me a seat, there was a line out the door last Sunday!

They are located in the Media Mall on State Street.

Campaign Lawn Signs
A point of contention for many in the borough, though looks like everyone did a good job with taking down their political lawn signs in borough.

Posting on ATM
I'm not sure how long Transition Town Media has been around, but when I started this blog 4 years ago they always asked if I could post their flyers.  I was thrilled back when only a few people visited ATM.  I've never forgotten that and have always taken the time to help Sari out with her effort.  If you have something you'd like the community to know about, I'll consider posting it.

Here Comes Rose Tree Reserve
Things continue to pickup for the housing development that is being build near the Media bypass in Middletown.  I have no idea how long it'll take to complete the 112 luxury townhomes, but I would image they can do it quite quickly these days.  Spring 2014?
112 luxury town homes coming to the outskirts of Media - Rose Tree Reserve on Baltimore Pike
Media Area Oldtimer's Celebrate 50th Anniversary
One of my all time favorite events because it encompasses what the essence of Media truly is.  If I asked people what the ethos of this town is, they would probably say, "well, it's everybody's home town."  That's partially true, but the reason behind that categoriztion is this: Media's core value has always been the welcoming and inclusion of others.  Essentially, people in Media look out for one another and this Oldtimer's event exemplifies based on the respect we have for each other and the appreciation of where we grew up.

Governor Corbett Visits Media, PA
Gov. Corbett at Media Towne House Restaurant
There were a lot of people that wanted to see Governor Corbett when he visited Media on Friday, but with a tight schedule, taking a walk down State Street wasn't on the agenda.  It would have been great if it were, as I like Tom Corbett.  I've met him a few times and I can see how he's perceived as a bit stiff, but that may be because he values being a leader more than being a slick politician.  Creating a 141,000 jobs in Pennsylvania is impressive, but what really stands out to me is the help he provided to save the refineries and jobs along the Delaware River here in Delco.

Used Cars Come to Media

Don't know Spanky or Franky but they are here in Media now selling automobiles on the west side of Baltimore Ave.  At one time Media had one of the first Subaru dealerships in the country that was owned and operated by Bob Carl.

I always thought the earlier Subura station wagons were neat, but what really stood out as a concept vehicle was the Subaru Brat.  Remeber the seats that came in the back?  Don't think I could fit in one of those now.  I mean the driver's seat.

Christmas Decorations in Media
I try to tell each and every business how much it is appreciated that they decorate for the Christmas Holiday.  I know it's extra work and some may not feel it's really appreciated, but let me tell you IT IS!  Great job here by Deja Vu Salon on State Street!  Thanks!
Doesn't this look Great?

Governor Tom Corbet visits Media Pa

Pennsylvania Governor, Tom Corbett, along with his wife Sue were in Media today for an event at the Town House to kick off his campaign for a second term.  With a packed room, the Governor went on to say how important it was to rescue the refineries along the Delaware River and the 141,000 jobs he's created since being in office.

Thanks for stopping by Media, Governor!

Media Area Sports Hall Of Fame celebrated its 50th Anniversary Celebration Last Night

The Media Area Sports Hall Of Fame celebrated its 50th Anniversary Celebration last night to a sold out room at the Towne House. President Phil Damiani put together a wonderful tribute to 50 great years capped off by a video that chronicled the history of Media Youth Sports Programs and Media and Penncrest High Schools. Steve Mescanti put this video together and it is a wonderful piece of work that took everyone on a trip down memory lane. The traditional spirited debates were alive and well at every table about whose team was better, whose time was faster and who lost more hair. See everyone at the 51st!

A special thanks to Steve Hefferan for providing this update!

I'll need some help on these L to R (Andy "Ooters" Walters, ?, Steve Hefferan, Brad Allen, ?, ?)

Transition Town Media - Candlelight Gratitude Event - Sat. Nov 16th 6pm

Media Election Wrap Up!

Media,

I want to thank everyone who came out and supported me yesterday, however, I was unsuccessful in my bid for Mayor of Media. The last few months were not only a great experience, but enabled me to interact with the community that's a unique experience you only get from doing something like this. Despite the outcome it was and continues to be very rewarding involvement.
Congratulations to the democratic candidates who did work hard on their door-to-door efforts and getting the vote out. I sincerely wish them well on their endeavors to make Media the best place it can be.

Sincerely,

Tedman O'Hara

Media's Public Safety will depend on who's elected Mayor!

Body found in park 2011
Back in 2011 on August 29th we had a very serious and unfortunate tragedy occur in the borough which entailed the discovery of a body found on fire at Houtman Park.  I reported on the matter in addition to the delcotimes.com at approximately 3:36pm.  This is not something that happens in Media which naturally left the community not only shocked, but searching for direction and the reasons behind this.  Throughout the afternoon, speculation continued to swirl from people who were looking for answers from both me and on social media.  Frantic residents were also beginning to worry at the thought that there may have been someone else involved with this death and could still be at large. It was late afternoon Monday when schools were letting out, it was a very tense time for some.

At 6:19pm I posted an update with information provided by the delcotimes.com regarding the investigation, but it still did not confirm the cause of death.  Suicide was speculated, but at the time could not be confirmed.  It also didn't make a whole lot of sense as to how someone could commit suicide and then be found on fire - Nobody knew!

I'll Take Media's Safety Seriously
At 7:17pm, having heard from many residents, I formally requested a statement on the matter from Media Borough Council which should have been addressed by Head of Public Saftey, Mayor Bob McMahon.    As serious and unusual this tragedy was; it should have been handled proactively and immediately.  That's leadership!  Not only was it not, it never was by Mayor Bob McMahon.   People had to wait for an updated Daily Times article the next day to understand the reason which was confirmed to be suicide.

As a resident of this community I did more to update this town on this issue than our own head of safety did, Mayor Bob McMahon.  Unfortunately, Mayor McMahon had no plan that day and it affected the community.   It's time for a change and it's time to elect a leader who will actually step up deal with our issues head on.  Not having a plan for Third St Bridge, traffic signals and economic investment in this town is one thing, and something Mayor McMahon has refused to discuss this election; but not having a plan for Media's safety is unacceptable!

Why your School Board Vote on Tuesday is More Important Than You Think

The Rose Tree Media School Board plays a big role for our communities and is a contributing factor for why families choose to move and stay here.  As a kid, it certainly was for my family who weighed that decision and trusted that the schools here in Rose Tree Media would be of the highest quality.  And now as a taxpayer, just as important.  Recently Philly Magazine illustrated just how important a great school district is in an article they did in 2011 about Upper Providence being one of the best places to live in the region - RTMSD had a lot to do with that!

Here in Media, we had an issue last year that involved Media Elementary being relocated due to structural issues with the building at Monroe and State Street.  As upsetting and concerning that was for many families, we had a superintendent and school board that stepped in, developed a road-map to proceed and executed on a plan that had virtually no issues.  That's no easy feat and what could have been Media's BIGGEST problem, turned out to not even be one.

As a taxpayer who covers a lot of issues in town, is a product of RTM and is very active in the Penncrest Alumni Association; my support on election day goes to Linda Fox, Harry Postles, Tracey Brown-Barusevicius and Nancy Mackrides.

Rose Tree Media School District has the third lowest tax rate among Delaware County Schools (http://www.co.delaware.pa.us/treasurer/TaxRate2013)

School board member responsible for insuring Quality Education. Rose Tree Media ranks 13th out of 553 school districts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Rose Tree Media School District:
An Exceptional Record of Achievement
  • Nationally recognized faculty with 4 “Teacher of the Year” candidates over a 2-year period.
  • Successfully negotiated 7 labor agreements
  • Completed Springton Lake Middle School construction with minimum impact to taxpayers
  • Addressed serious structural issues and student relocation at Media Elementary School
  • Implemented advanced technology program for all secondary grades
  • Received a 'clean' state level audit of finances and compliance with state regulations and procedures
  • Moved towards further standardization of grade level curriculums
  • Energy saving initiatives in transportation and building utilization with a dedicated approach to conservation of the environment
  • First school board in the nation to pass a resolution to commit to the purchase and use of Fair Trade products
  • Expanding arts and sports programs

Media in Two Minutes - VOTE TEDMAN NOV 5th!

Dear Reader and Voter,

I want to thank Dave Daniel from Upper Providence for the commentary post he submitted on Tuesday.  It's refreshing to see a candidate outline the issues and tackle them head-on. In Media we've been fed statements such as, "Roll up our sleeves" and "Thinking outside the box," which doesn't mean anything. But I'm sure what I outline below will.
  • Third Street Bridge Continues to cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars each year.  It's worse off now than 2 years ago when it had a real chance to be solved.  Mayor McMahon refuses to address it.
  • Economic Investment in Media It's a flat-out embarrassment that we have a company willing to invest millions into the borough, yet they have been intentionally strung along because we don't have the accountability or leadership on borough council.  Wawa has presented 14 times in 18 months and council president, Brian Hall acts as though he's hearing it all for the first time.  He even pushed off the decision till after the election so not to draw attention to themselves when they deny it.  Other businesses have taken notice of Media's anti-business climate.
  • Media's Hotel - For seven years this was left to fend for itself.  Media borough provided updates that this was shovel ready just a year ago, when in fact it still sits there to this day.  How could a council have gotten this project so wrong?  The owners have lost interest.
  • Olive Street Parking Garage - This structure is in such bad shape that it becomes a natural waterfall with rainwater running through the seams.  I've been writing for the need to repair this for two years.  Now that the borough has to hire a structural engineer, you have to wonder how neglected this garage is.  Media can't afford to lose 250 parking spots in downtown!
  • 15 years for 8 Traffic Lights?  Mayor McMahon speaks of how important the "Future" is, but his track record shows it took him 15 YEARS to have the traffic signals along Baltimore Ave and Providence Road synchronized.  The same project in Springfield was done in two years!  This ineptness also cost taxpayers another $200,000 due to delays.
  • Septa's Funding for the Media/Elwyn Line  If candidates are so eager to be on borough council, then why haven't they done anything to show their worth? I'm the ONLY candidate that's actively researched, investigated, written and met with legislatures over this issue.  Who's fighting for your best interests?
  •  Small Businesses  When our small businesses do well, the town as a whole becomes a better place for everyone.  I understand that, but also realize the challenges of new town centers being built up the street in Middletown.  Does Bob McMahon? He's not taken any opportunity to speak on the matter.
Folks, on Tuesday November 5th we can make a real change in this town.  A change that will show results, not overused business metaphors that apparently candidates find acceptable to deceive the residents with.

Media in Two Minutes

The App of My Eye (not really, it just sounded good)
Media's Great Wall
If you commute via the trolley, Media/Elwyn Line or even by Septa bus; check out their new app they released this week.  I did a quick review of it and included other comments regarding important updates Septa has via Twitter.

The Great Wall of Media
I'm not exactly sure what this wall entails, but I know it's important to the people of Media.  I was sent this picture to do a post, but folks, I need a little more information here.  Fill us in!

Bear Sighting in Media
Yep, you got that right.  This week a bear was brought into the borough and will be kept at the Delaware County Institute of Science on Veteran's square.  Ok, it's a stuffed bear, but they are thrilled to have it and hope people will come to check it out.  Listen, if you've never been to the DCIS, take a stroll through.  It's an AMAZING facility!

Republic Bank has it's Grand Opening
With as many banks in Media, I didn't think this opening would be such a big deal.  Turns out, it was.  I really had a great time with catching up with people in the community at this event.  The place looks amazing and has a lot of parking - something you don't hear often in Media.
wall covering at Republic Bank

W 4th and N. Orange Street
Ok, I know after writing about the need to correct the signage at this intersection, there are now signs that indicate cross traffic does not stop.  However, you really have to look to see these signs which doesn't do much good if you're not expecting them to be there.  Here's a better example being used by other towns.

New Bike Racks in Media Getting A Work Out
Glad to see residents putting the new bike racks to work.  Here's a picture from Saturday that shows two bikes utilizing the rack at Veteran's Square.  I know in the grand scheme of things this isn't big news, but for those who made this happen it CERTAINLY IS!  Great Job on this and keep of the good work.

Media History - Houses on the corner of E State and Radnor Streets
This photo was taken in August 2005 when the old houses were being torn down at this location.  The lots been vacant ever since.

Tedman O'Hara for Mayor of Media - Working for the Community

Elvis Presley Knows Media, PA
When I'm not writing this blog I'm out talking with residents in Media.  Truthfully, I love going door-to-door and sharing stories about Media, as well as hearing them.  Did you know that Blue Christmas made famous by the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley was written in Media, Pa? Here's the commemorative plaque that tells the story of Elvis' most famous holiday song.  That's pretty cool!

Today I had the chance to walk around the western and northern precincts to get a first hand look at the issues affecting them.  Parking is a big issue on the west side, especially for the folks on W 4th Street, while others in the north continue to have issues with speeding cars and drivers ignoring stop signs.  There are also issues with traffic congestion due to the road work being done in Upper Providence.  I've reached out to Upper Providence and am trying to get timely updates on progress.  They've even created a site which has already received great feedback from the community.

Problems at N. Orange St.
Not something I'd recommend, nor will I do again(ha), but I'm the one who climbed down the train trestle crossing Crum Creek to get a better look at how bad that situation was that may become a factor in shutting down the Media/Elwyn commuter line.  Hopefully come November, legislatures will vote in favor of this Septa funding contained in the PA Transportation Bill.  When a sink hole closed Orange Street, I also wanted the community to see what that was all about and why we need to keep roadways open and repaired when we have the money to do so (i.e.Third Street Bridge).

I asked.  The tall guys doesn't play basketball, he plays hockey!
Lastly I had a chance to stop in and see the grand opening of the new Republic Bank at the corner of Baltimore Ave and Providence Rd. (across from Starbucks).  WOW! They really know how to throw a party and the newly re-opened bank looks AMAZING!  I was also happy to see some people from the Media Library and Media Food Bank there too.

As candidate for Mayor of Media, I can't wait to show this community what Media has to offer and how together we can make this one of the best places to live in the country.
