Delaware County Council has Focus on Open Space

Thanks to County Councilwoman, Christine Fizzano Cannon, Media and surrounding municipalities in Delco can all breath easier knowing that open space is a major priority to county government.
As Media Town Talk writes... Delco’s ‘green’ go-to person: Christine Fizzano Cannon
Last year, on behalf of County Council, Fizzano Cannon brought to completion a three-year project she spearheaded to preserve the 46.2 acre Mineral Hill site off Baltimore Pike in Middletown. This historically, geographically and environmentally significant property will become Delaware County’s twelfth park, adding to its 616 acres of open space. No tax dollars were used in purchasing the property. It was funded by state and federal grants and money from Middletown paid by local developers and through open space fundraising efforts.

BCV and Media to make events and festivals even better!

Brandywine Conference and Visitors Bureau isn't just moving to their new offices to Rose Tree Road, but also looking to make an impact in Media Borough. Per last week's workshop meeting, BCV is looking to contribute $30,000 to host and promote events for the Borough.  This will be a working relationship with the Media Business Authority to promote Media a as a destination place to surrounding counties.

Details have yet to be worked out, but receiving as much as $10,000 in sponsorship money for both the Food Festival and Car Show are very good problems to have.  In addition, the BCV is negotiating to possibly take over an existing event and develop and entirely new one.  Could Media get a Fashion show, Art weekend or Antique stroll?  It's too early to tell, but conversations and ideas are scheduled to be discussed in February.

BREAKING NEWS - Bi-Partisan coalition receives funds to repair 3rd St. Bridge

At tonight's  Borough Council meeting, Media's bi-partisan coalition adopts resolution 2011-01 RCAP Grant to accept $650k in redevelopment funds towards the repair of third street bridge.

After 13 years of lack of direction and a cost to borough tax payers of $280k, Media Borough's bi-partisan coalition, led by Council President, Pete Alyanakian and Vice President, Monika Rehoric  is making progress to finalize bridge repair sometime in 2012/13.  There are a few items yet to be worked out, but after 6 months of the bi-partisan leadership, results are speaking louder than words.

Congratulations to Media......more information on this story to come!

POLL: Should Media enact a similiar Darby Townshp. ordinance re: reserved parking spots?

This week, Darby Twp. enacted ordinance 692 which can potentially charge residents $300 for placing items in township streets meant to reserve parking spots dugout from snow.
Ordinance 692 makes it illegal for any person to place any item for the purpose of reserving a parking spot on any township street during periods of precipitation.
Should Media consider a similar ordinance?

*88 points, Wine Spectator, October 31, 2008

"Firm and hard in tannins and very dry, this Bordeaux blend shows the hallmarks of a wine that will benefit from time in the cellar. It has a dense core of black currants and cedar, and is very balanced. Should blossom after 2010."

Cabernet Sauvignon 58% Merlot 31% Cabernet Franc 7% Malbec 3% Petit Verdot 1%

Leonhardt Zinfandel Reserve Dry Creek Valley 2006 #30907
Quoted at *$48.00 ............. PLCB Sale $24.99

"Color: Dense black purple. Aroma: Beautiful fruit aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, and currents, along with black pepper and clove spice, and hints of violets and lavender. Flavors: Intense, luscious blackberry and black raspberry fruit, hints of cherry, plum, and currents, chocolate, thick, mouth-coating texture on the mid-palate, great length and persistent flavors on finish of black raspberry, pepper, and clove spice. Balanced, complex, and flavorful." *Winemaker's notes

"Don't confuse this great California Zinfandel with the high-alcohol, port-like styles that dominate the category, or, worse, with white zin. This wine is medium-full-bodied, lush and velvety, with raspberry, chocolate, black berry and cherry, medium alcohol and tannins. Finishes with hints of spice and sweet strawberry vanillan. I keep a notebook with the few wines I taste that really leave a lasting impression. This one made the list." PLCB Wine Buyer Steve Pollack

Snow Day in Media, PA.....trolley, home town feel and all

Media is one of, if not the last town to have a trolley run down Main Street(State St.) On snowy days it's even more of a 'one of kind' experience which is enjoyed by many.

Truth be told, I haven't ridden it in years, but it's still great to have.
