Thanks to volunteers, we will have fulltime moderators who will manage, comment and answer questions throughout the day.  They'll also provide online polls, pictures and video clips.

If you're following your favorite candidate, we are too. We will aggregate twitter feeds from both candidates in each of the following races: Governor, Senate and Congress(7th District)
What that means: when they tweet(make an update), it'll show up automatically on the screen below.

We hope you enjoy this as much as we did in putting it together. Good luck to the candidates on Tuesday and DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!

Bryn Mawr Running Co. Get's Media Running........

A Message From Media's Bryn Mawr Running CO.

IF YOU ARE A NEW RUNNER (or if you currently attend group runs) THEN THIS MESSAGE IS FOR YOU!!!

We are starting a new group run for beginning runners on Thursday, November 11th at 5:30pm, at the Media store!  Our good friend Sue Brown (who some of you may know!) has volunteered her time to "coach" this new group.  The first night we will get some information from you, give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have and then go for a short, easy run.  If you are new to running, a walker who wants to start running, or just a person who runs and is a little intimidated by the big group runs, then this is the group for you...all are welcome!!!

DON'T FORGET ABOUT OUR REGULAR WEEKLY GROUP RUNS...THURSDAY AT 6pm.  If you've been in search of a little motivation to show up regularly, how about this: Each time you come in the month of November and December you enter your name in a raffle.  If you bring a friend, you get to put your name in twice!  On Thursday, December 23rd we will have a drawing to see who wins!  And we're not talking about a measly pair of socks people...it's going to be something big and exciting like a free pair of shoes or maybe a nice winter jacket.  We're talking some good swag here...something that you wouldn't be ashamed to re-gift!

Media Youth Center has great turn-out for annual event

It was great to be invited to the Media Youth Center's annual fundraising dinner held tonight at the Media Towne House.  It's a tradition that's gone on for many years and is as popular as ever.  The Gross family has done a tremendous job at bringing the community together to support this event.

Media Youth Center Fundraising Event at the Towne House - Media, PA
It was interesting to learn the the youth center does much more than just sporting events that I always knew if for.  In fact, at one time they not only had basketball, but boxing and an arcade upstairs....that was a long time ago.  Today, they have a computer lab and gatherings that recently led to building robots.

Wow, things sure have changed, but the Youth Center has, and continues to be, an asset to community and a great educational and sporting facility for the younger generations to come.

Media needs to fix road problems, not create natural speed bumps.

When the bridge was first a problem 11 years ago, it was  substantially less to fix than it is now. Unfortunately, the neglect and indecision, which cost taxpayers $240,000, has made for a challenging and expensive resolve.   It's now estimated to cost over $5,000,000 to fix the bridge that just a few years ago was ~$3,500,000.

Street repair is no different. A few people, think leaving the indented recess at the cross walk of Jackson and State Streets is nothing more than a mere "natural speed bump" and believe is should be left as so. WHAT?

State Street and Jackson Street
So as it continues to degrade; at what point does it go from being a "natural speed bump" to an actual hazard? If residents, visitors and borough police/fire equipment are bottoming out while driving at the posted legal speed limit, and borough management officials have made requests to have it fixed; it should then be fixed.

Maintaining and keeping a town operating at a safe and cost effective level is the responsibility of Media's elected officials and borough management.  Making problems seem like they're not problems is not how to run a town...or anything for that mater. (i.e. 3rd St. Bridge)

At last week's borough council meeting, Councilman Cunningham and the bi-partisan effort addressed this issue and are moving forward to have it resolved before the holiday season.

Joe Sestak comes to Media and so do Delco Patriots, Pat Toomey and Pat Meehan Supporters

Joe Sestak came to Media to day and so did the Delco Patriots, Pat Toomey and Pat Meehan supporters.  They all got together by the old car dealership on Baltimore Pike across the street from Hills Seafood.  It was a scheduled speaking event for Joe Sestak to be held at 5pm, but there were a healthy amount of people who had something to say too.

Baltimore Pike
It was a bit tense, but both sides were civil in expressing their opinions on who should be elected and why, on November 2nd.  It was interesting to see the political process in full swing and see people passionate enough to come out and rally for what they thought was right.

Media, PA Small Business - Martin's Detail "Barber Shop For Cars"

I met Bob Martin a few years back when we both use to volunteer to help with the setup of Media Music events.  Bob's not only lives and helps the community, but also has a small business on the west end of Media called Martin's Detail.  He's done car detailing for many years and has many repeat, happy customers in the borough and beyond.  He does work for local dealerships too.

Ariano's Restaurant in Media, PA - Well Worth the Wait!

Ariano's, it's HERE!  Well, almost.  I had the distinct pleasure of being invited down to the restaurant to look around and have a taste of the menu.  I've never said "outta this world" and "pizza" in the same sentence, until this weekend.

The vibe of the place is the first thing you notice when you walk through the door.  Excellent setup, great lighting, space and aromas that let you know you're in for something spectacular.  You may be thinking formal dining with pizza?  Which really doesn't go well in the same sentence either, but elegant dining with the best pizza you've ever tasted just might.  Don't believe me?  Just you wait.  Err, uh, just wait a little longer, it's not officially open yet.

What makes this food stand out is the remarkable way in which it's done.  It's the thinnest crust you can get and cooks in a wood oak fired oven.  We timed it, the pizza goes in/out and is cooked in less than 120 seconds.  What's neat is that they have a chef's counter where 6 to 8 people can sit, eat and watch the food being cooked.

We got to taste the whole menu.  Chicken pesto pizza, margarita pizza, filet pizza, mussels and pizza, mozzarella/basil and perhaps my favorite, portabello and roasted peppers.  There were a few other varieties too.  For dessert, nutella/strawberry pizza and home made gelato.

The second floor is open with a third floor balcony.  A great setup for large parties.  It looks like the doors to the outside will open too, which will make for a great ambiance in the warmer months.  Of note, is the mural on the ceiling which tells a story of the owner's heritage.  Word is it took over a year to paint it.

It's BYOB and will be open in the morning for what I hear is the best cappachino around.

Congratulations to owner Anthony Bellapigna and his crew.  With his other very popular, Fellini's Cafe Trattoria, this in another great addition to Media!

BREAKING NEWS - MEDIA BORO RECEIVES $75K for Design Work on 3rd St. Bridge

RESULTS SPEAK VOLUMES!

Say what you will about the NEW Media, Bi-Partisan coalition, but at tonight's Media Borough Council Meeting, after 11 years and $240, 000 in expenses; Media Borough received a net positive of $75k from the Delaware County council towards the design fees for the 3rd St. Bridge.

In a mere 90 days, the new bi-partisan leadership, led by Council President, Pete Alyanakian (Rep) and Vice President, Monika Rehoric (Dem), has achieved tangible results that the former leadership couldn't do over the entire eleven year old history of the bridge.  We've gone from lack of direction and losing money year after year, to strategy that's being executed on and cooperation that has allowed for REAL money to be given towards the bridge.

This is not only a step in the right direction, but proof that when people cooperate and work together, regardless of what party, great things can happen.

After $240,000 in expenses, the 3rd. St. Bridge receives $75K in money towards design fees!
Congratulations Media residents, this is something that has been long over due and an achievement everyone can be proud of.

In addition, discussions have been initiated with Pa. State Senator, Dominic Pileggi on plans to further research funding that could be used for the actual repair of the bridge.

Media Pa - Murray Overhill Pharmacy - Support Local Businesses

I was concerned to hear last evening that Murray Overhill Pharmacy is going through some challenging times and was handing out flyers at the court house for discounts on their goods.  The small businesses that make up Media are vitally important to making this town the great place that it is.  If you can, please continue to support local business.

Parts of Media Borough has Wifi from Comcast's Xfinity

If you rely on a data connection for your phone or laptop, you'll be happy to know that Comcast's Xfinity blankets a lot of Media with their wifi service.  It's spotty, but I was able to get decent connections on State St., the Media train station and parts of Baltimore pike.  As long as you have a Comcast account, you only need your Comcast email address and password to log into the network.

Best Place to Watch the Phillies Game in Media ?- A few good choices

Where to watch the Phillies game in Media?  Plumstead's the local favorite, but Quotations has a good setup and Joclyn's isn't too bad either with their outdoor bar.  However, one of the not so well known places is upstairs at Sligo's.  With a theater size(10ft) HD screen, it's own bartender and drink specials ($2.50 Coors Light) it's becoming very popular.

Media Icons Exhibit Tonight along with 2nd Saturday

In conjunciton with Media's 2nd Saturday, Media Icons will be having their exhibit at 1 West Front St. (the old Bill Battey's store)
I stopped by this week and saw Becky Lee hard a work setting everything up.  It looks GREAT! I was blown away by the photos and how each person artistically showed media through their lenses.

It's from 6 - 9pm.  More information can be found at their website.

People generally though this Year's Media Food Festival was GREAT!

2010

Based on our informal poll, people who went to the Media Food Festival this year thought it was great.  I did too, but as some had indicated the variety of restaurants/food was a bit lacking.  Perhaps something to work on, but overall it's a great Media event.

Thanks to those who took the time to vote!

Media PA: Pizza, Pizza Everywhere and pratically around the clock.

On State St.
Open on the wknd til 2:30am
You can't help but notice the pizza places going up in Media.  I missed the opportunity last Saturday to try out the Ariano's selection.  They had a private tasting, and of all people, I missed it.  Anyway, they are rumored to open in two weeks.  Take that for what it's worth, I've been wrong about that before.  Eitherway, it's probably a good thing they open soon, as I stopped by Media Pizza & Grille last night and they're off an running.

Very nice people there behind the counter who were very proud of the many selections of pizza they had, and at what I would consider, a very reasonable price.  $7.95 for a rock shrimp small pizza is well worth the price.

They are in a prime spot with hours going into the early weekend mornings.  2:30AM!  I'm not up at that time, but with bars on both sides and many more on State St., it should attract a lot of people.

Let the Pizza Wars begin.  People say Apollo is the reigning champ and currently has the title of "best pizza in Media," but time will surely tell.  The pizza I had at Media Pizza and Grill was excellent and different than what one would get from a Apollo, Little Anthony's or Pinocchio's.

Speaking of Apollo Pizza, they now have online ordering, which for big orders is quite cool.

Media's Emergency Notification System.....and maybe Twitter.

Media needs to do a better job with their "Notification System."  It's definitely a step in the right direction, but the sign-up should be a lot easier than sending someone and email.  How about an option where you can sign-up online too!  Does it also do emails and SMS texts?

Is there a corresponding Twitter functionality for notifications of a non-critical nature?  Speaking of which, why wouldn't www.mediaborough.com have a twitter account? Like if Super Sunday, Dining Under the Stars, parades or committee meetings  were cancelled/rescheduled due to bad weather?  This could also address snow emergencies, power outages, notifications of crime and community events....to name a few.  Twitter has it's faults and doesn't have mission critical reliability, but it's pretty close, free and very effective to fulfill such a need/service.

Perhaps that is handled in part by www.visitmediapa.com but it should be an all inclusive notification system done by the Borough.

 Be sure to sign-up:www.mediaborugh.com

Media does Great Job with this Year's Food Fest

Media did a great job with this year's Food Festival.  I was able to swing down there early during the AM setup and was impressed with the people and volunteers involved to make it all happen.  They make it looks easy, but I'm sure it's no easy task.

The Pumpkin/Crab soup by Quotations stole the show! If there was a better dish served on Sunday, Delco would like to hear about it.
