Media's Memorial Day Parade - Monday, May 31st 10am State St.

For some reason it always seems hard to find the date and time of  Media parades/events. Timely rain cancellations even harder if you don't seem to know the right people.

Anyway, thanks to www.visitmediapa.com for providing an up to date and comprehensive calendar of such gatherings.

Pinocchio's Beer Garden To Go in Media, 750 varieties

I've not yet had the chance to get down and see Pinocchio's Beer Garden, but I've heard the selection is outstanding with over 750 varieties of beer.  All they need to do now is to throw some German pretzel dough into those vintage pizza ovens and wait for the lines to form out the door. Beer and soft pretzels is tough to beat.  Until then, the great selection of beers will sell itself.

Swing by their well done website to check out all their beer listings: www.pinbeer.com
They can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.

After years of thought and many months of planning, the Volikas family is proud to open Pinocchio’s Beer Garden To Go. The team at Pinocchio’s had the ‘difficult’ job of hand picking and tasting many beers deciding on the best beer to offer its customers. The Bottle Shop features over 750 different beers from more than 200 American Craft and International Breweries. So come on in, build a 6-pack, and find your favorite craft bomber or that specialty Belgian Quad that you will drink on a special occasion. If you can not find what you are looking for simply let us know and we will help you get it. Happy beer tasting!

mediarestaurants.com - Where People Meet to Eat

Media is a hotspot for a broad range of restaurants and diverse cuisines.  From Asian, to Thai, to French, to Americana and many more; Media has it covered.  I recently came across www.mediarestaurants.com that does a good job at explaining the various kinds of restaurants in Media; as well as, hours, menus, pictures and weekly specials.

I'm not sure what the business model is, or if it even needs one, but it would be great to get twitter updates on specials and restaurant events.

MEDIA THEATRE HAS DISNEY'S 'BEAUTY AND THE BEAST' SATURDAYS IN JUNE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: ROGER RICKER/ MEDIA THEATRE/ 610-891-0100

MEDIA THEATRE HAS DISNEY'S 'BEAUTY AND THE BEAST'
SATURDAYS IN JUNE

One of the most beloved family musicals of all time comes to The Media Theatre Saturday mornings in June at 11am. Disney's "Beauty and the Beast", in an edited Junior version, will entertain the young and the young at heart.

Disney's hand drawn classic, released in 1991, was the first animated film to be nominated for the Academy Award as Best Picture, a feat even "The Lion King" did not achieve. In 1994, Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" became a hugely successful Broadway musical with seven new songs written for the stage version. It ran for 12 years becoming the seventh most successful stage musical in Broadway history.

The Junior version of the show contains all of the popular music written by Alan Menken with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. The script is edited to just over 70 minutes in length, maintaining all of the adventure and romance of the Prince turned into an ugly Beast and the young lady, Belle, he imprisons in his enchanted castle.

beautykatiepaigeromano.jpgAt The Media Theatre, Disney's "Beauty and the Beast, Jr" will have a cast of 30 young people from its School of The Theatre playing all of the roles. Katie Stecklair, seen in "Ebenezer" and "Narnia", will portray the lead role of Belle. Tre Fountain is the Beast, with Media's Christopher Infantino as Gaston. Brendan Desanto, who portrayed The Coroner in the main stage production of "The Wizard of Oz", is Lefou. Aston's Paige Romano, seen recently as The Caterpillar in "Alice in Wonderland", becomes Babette. Others in the cast include Owen Mannion as Lumiere and Andrew Moretti as Cosgrove, with Lindsay Ronaldson as Mrs. Potts and Patrick Gaughan as Chip. Madame La Bouche, the Wardrobe, will have two faces (Becky Ferguson and Jordan Robbins).

For tickets to Disney's "Beauty and the Beast, Jr." at The Media Theatre (Saturday mornings in June at 11am), call 610-891-0100 or visit www.mediatheatre.org. Each Saturday, pizza parties are available following the performance for an extra fee in which audience members may meet the cast.

A Great Thing Just Got Better...Mexican Food at the Koffee Korner 3 nights a week

Media seems to have an insatiable appetite for Mexican and Southwestern cuisine.  Well, lucky for us the Koffee Korner, in addition to Thursday's,  has expanded their great Mexican dinners to now include Wednesday and Friday evenings too.

For the longest time it was the best kept secret in town, but it's too good not to share.   Enjoy!

3rd St. Bridge at a crossroad

Despite the pending court decision which will determine who actually owns the 3rd St. bridge, moving forward with the design phase and protecting the allocated state funding was the right thing to do.  A lot of people on Borough Council will hedge their bets on what decision to make based on how popular/unpopular the resident's response is to the final cost.  I understand that, but I encourage people to take positions on this, as this is a Media issue and not just a problem on the west side of town.

The longer this problem plays out, the greater the cost....to all of us.  13 years ago the estimated repair was a third of the cost that it is now.  The only thing worse than not coming to a solution on the bridge would be for Broomall Lake to sell off the property to a developer......and I'm sure no one wants to see that.

Ariano's Wood Oven Pizza is opening soon in Media!

It's been a long time coming; almost what seems like three years, but it looks like the Fellini's owned restaurant located on the coner or Olive St. and Baker St. may be opening soon.  It'll be called Ariano's and serve authentic wood oven pizza and freshly made gelato.  As an added benefit, which everyone seems to love, it'll be BYOB too!   If Fellini's on State St. is any indication of what Media can expect, this should be a hit.

Inside the new Ariano's Wood Oven Pizza Restaurant

From what I can see through the windows the inside looks amazing.  With the tables and equipment already setup, this place could open any day.  It would be great to see it open for Memorial Day Weekend.

Quick Action: reycling bin placement paying dividends at Barrall Field

It's only been a week since the eight recycling bins were placed at Barrall Field, but the return on ACTION is already paying dividends.  I stopped by the field today just to see how the bins have been used and where they were placed.  All eight were well utilized with most half way filled already.

I received an update this weekend that the $20k grant awarded to Media Boro. through Rep. Tom Killion's office will be release in June.  This money will go toward Big Belly solar trash compactors which was facilitated by Councilman, Pete Alayankian.

Benjamin's Market is closing, 1/2 price on all remaining items

It was unfortunate to learn today that Benjamin's Market located on 1 West Front St., is closing.  I caught up with the owner who said despite the improving business, they were unable to stay open due to financial reasons.  He's not dissuaded nor did he promise anything, but stated that he has a few ideas and may be back in Media again soon.  I hope so, he was on to something good that really could have evolved into a great shopping experience for residents.

The doors are open today to clear out the remaining goods.  Everything must go and is at 1/2 price.

Rebuilding Media's Furture with the Charm of the Past

As one reader pointed out, we are very lucky to have the architectural expertise of Bob Linn who has taken great strides in keeping Media, well, Media. One great example in the photos below shows how the style of the Old Firehouse, which was located on Jackson and State, was used in creating the United Savings Bank on Baltimore Pike.

Dining Under the Stars and Barrall Field gets Recycling Bins!!!

Despite the overcast, cool weather; dining under the stars, the Wednesday event held in Media, got off to a good start. Kudos to Drew Arata at Earth and State for providing fun activities for the kids while adults dined the night away. Picasso's, Lotus and Fellini's were extremely well attended based on the seating they had outside.

Looking forward to next Wednesday and hoping for warmer weather.

ALSO, a BIG THANKS to Councilman, Jim Cunningham and Boro. Manager, Jeff Smith for providing ample amounts of recycling bins at Barrall Field. The person who originally brought this to my attention was delighted at the quick response and solution provided. NICE JOB!

Making Media better one comment at a time. Participation encouraged.

allthingsmediapa.com is making Media better one comment at a time.  Much thanks for the support from the Delco Times in helping promote our efforts in providing communities a way to discuss issues, events and challenges.

Local governments can be notorious for moving slow, lacking focus and being indecisive....We're Not!  If you have an issue, thought or just want to know what's up with say the "3rd St Bridge," leave a comment and it will be answered.  Thanks to Councilman Jim Cunningham and Pete Alyanakian, for tackling local issues that sometimes don't get the recognition they deserve.  It's about results, not bureaucracy.

Availability and open communication is what is important in resolving issues and moving forward as a community.  Participation encouraged, thanks for reading!

Media's Farmer's Market Website: http://mediafarmersmarket.com/

Media's Farmer's Market Website

Lansdowne Has a Very Popular Farmer's Market, I Hope Media's is Similar

Based on last month’s borough council meeting, Media’s Farmer’s market is expected to begin operation sometime during the mid/late May time frame.  Honestly, I’ve not heard anything regarding the setup, vendors, guidelines, who can participate, etc.  I would think the Committee for the Farmer’s market would have at least a website or promotional material explaining the market in detail…….as it is just two/three weeks out.  Perhaps they do and I’ve just not seen it.

Most of Media Borough Council didn’t seem to think the operational details/recommendations were important.  Based on their general response of “…I think it’s a good idea,” I don’t even think they took the time to  really care.  However, one town that I feel got this right was Lansdowne here in Delaware County.  They not only have a  very popular and thriving farmer’s market, but a very detailed and well thought out website that really describes everything from how to participate, who can participate, volunteers, musicians and even where to find bathrooms.

As I’ve said before, I support the Farmer’s Market and look forward to its opening. I hope they create or have a website like Lansdowne’s so more residents can understand what it is and help with its success.  And, No, I don’t think for those who’ve asked,  it’s the type of farmer’s market where you can buy/sell fireworks.
